I have been told on occasion that I do art. Some people have even made the mistake of calling me an artist. Don't fret, none of that is true. But in case you don't believe me, pictured here are a few bits of my least functional pieces of work.
Candlesticks
You can see the main picture above. In highschool (I was in the technical theater program at San Francisco School of the Arts [SOTA]) my teacher needed some candlesticks. So he gave me some 1.5" brass rod, which I turned into candlesticks on my lathe. It's clear they don't match perfectly, but they are reasonably close. When separated by 3 feet on a table, they seem to match well. Total time for the project was around 6 hours.
"Syringe"
This was made as a potential prop for a version of Jeckyll and Hyde, the fall of my Junior year of high school (2005). It was inspired by a similar work by Adam Clarke, and made in his machine shop. That said, the details and design of this were my own, and all fabrication was done by me. This actually came before the candlesticks pictured above.
For scale, the needle is 1/4" in diameter, with a 1/8" hole in the tip. No, the syringe does not function. The body is ~1.25" in diameter. The material is 6061 aluminum.
Some pictures of the making are below. Click for captions.
